A holiday without a car or with the car left in the car park most of the time.
It can be done?
Since last season, the company for the promotion of our territory, Gardatrentino, has started collaborating with hotels to reduce the impact of cars on the roads.
With an initiative he called Autostop.
Every guest who decides to leave their car parked for even just one day receives benefits in exchange, a “sustainable” gadget but above all they can autograph their name on the (virtual) Green Wall.
In short, it actively affects the reduction of CO2 in our air.
The project is BEAUTIFUL.
It makes us very proud to start hearing that we consider ourselves, or want to define ourselves, as a “green” tourist destination.
We too have been racking our brains for some time to find solutions for our guests on this matter.
Very honestly to get around the parking problem, given that we have around 50 for 75 rooms, but mainly because welcoming “green” travelers is our desire.
The Autostop locality project and the periodic meetings we have with other operators are bringing topics to the topic.
For example:
- Is the dream of having guests here in the area who rarely use the car really achievable? In a place like ours where the offer of places to see is so wide?
Lakes, villages, castles, refuges, farmhouses, beaches, routes, museums, cellars… Would we be able to get to them just by bicycle on foot or by public transport? - Is it more interesting to present ourselves as a green destination to those who plan trips without a car because they want to do so or is it better to convince those who usually use the car to do so less?
There is a lot of philosophy here, we realize it.
There are few tools in hand to follow one path or the other.
Our area is well served by public transport but has several logistical and timing limitations. There are bike or scooter rentals for every taste, but even in this case the weather or space limitations for carrying bags or suitcases have an impact.
The train does not reach Altogarda (it stops in Rovereto), moving by water is romantic but very slow (Garda is still the largest lake in Italy), moving from a “nearby” airport to here is expensive or however not very comfortable.
The most suitable means of transport for a car-free holiday here would be the e-bike. Maybe with a waterproof tarpaulin suit folded in the backpack and a cart attached to the rear wheel.
If one day there was a rental hub at the train station, connected to a modern real-time booking app, perhaps the concept of a GREEN HOLIDAY on Lake Garda could truly be revolutionised.
The Rovereto-Riva cycle road is comfortable and in some sections also has a lake view (going down) is already there and works very well.
Here at Brione we have a garage equipped with sockets for charging, a pump for inflating the tyres, water for washing the bikes and even a small self-repair station.
