#7 LA BOUME

The Greatest Treasure We Keep. The most valuable part of our work isn’t the hotel itself.
It’s what stays with us after meeting so many different people. One of the main reasons people travel is to discover places and meet people unlike those they encounter in everyday life.
The privilege of welcoming those travellers is that, little by little, they change us too.

After more than seventy years of doing this, we’ve become fairly good at understanding people.
But more importantly, the memories that have settled within the walls of Brione have become a treasure beyond measure.

Our father is the greatest guardian of those stories. He’s been here almost all his life.
First as a curious little boy following his mother through the hotel corridors when she began working here.
Then as one of the people who has lived every chapter of the extraordinary years our family has spent at Brione.

Quite simply… He’s known almost every guest we’ve ever welcomed.

Hospitality is, above all, a matter of the heart.
It’s impossible to do this job if your heart isn’t willing to become a place where memories are carefully stored.
Living every day with emotions, relationships and human connections at the centre of what you do.

That’s why our work is anything but mechanical. Bookings. Occupancy. Meals served. Annual turnover. They’re all important numbers.
But they never tell the whole story. What really tips the balance are feelings.
The sense that we’ve welcomed someone warmly enough.
That we’ve found the right balance between friendliness and respect for their privacy.
That we’ve paid attention to the little details.

When something hasn’t gone quite right…
…you can feel it. And sometimes, you can read it between the lines of a review.

Every now and then, though, there is another feeling we have to deal with. A quiet sadness.
Guests who came back year after year…
…and then suddenly stop coming.

Sometimes they tell us why. Life has a habit of changing people’s plans.
Illness. Growing older.
Things none of us can control.

Sometimes, however…
…they simply disappear.

And because this job is built so much on human relationships, those absences don’t go unnoticed.
We find ourselves wondering.
In truth, after so many years together, it’s often not difficult to imagine the reason. Children have grown up and family holidays have changed. They’ve finally taken that long-dreamed-of journey they used to tell us about. They’ve discovered new passions.
Or perhaps a dog has arrived in the family and quietly rewritten years of holiday traditions.

Sometimes, after many years—or even decades—someone comes back just to say hello. Or a son, a daughter or a friend stops by to bring us their greetings.

Other times, we recognise someone walking past the hotel. They don’t turn their head. They simply keep walking. Faces we’ve seen countless times.
Impossible to mistake.
People who shared years of Brione with us…
…and then chose somewhere else.

That’s life.
It’s a little like believing you’ve found the perfect partner, only to hear one day that they’ve decided it’s time to move on. At the end of the day, this is still our work.
We understand that holidays are an important expense. We understand that the renovations may have changed the look of the hotel that some guests once loved.
And sometimes…
…the reason is simply us.
A conversation we never had. A small gesture we forgot. Or the mistake of assuming,“They know us already.”

Of course it hurts.
Never with resentment. Mostly with self-reflection.

Being entrusted with people’s memories is a beautiful responsibility. Every year makes us a little richer.
Even the small thorns left in our hearts remind us how precious the time we shared really was.

It has now been seventy-three years since the very first day.
We wonder… How much longer will this journey continue?
