We often tell ourselves that our hotel is perfect for couples on vacation with their newborn, or even during the summer when the baby is still on the way.
Our inner courtyard is quiet, the entire ground floor is step-free, making it easy for those who need to move around with strollers or prams. Plus, the lakeside promenade for relaxing walks is less than 200 meters away, and our garden offers shade and space for moments of privacy.
However, at the end of each season, when we review our booking data, we notice that guests of this “type” are very few—almost NONE.
Are we misjudging ourselves or our communication?
We would have no problem discovering that we believe we are “something” when, in reality, we are not.
But does anyone really look for a “different” kind of hotel when traveling with a newborn or a pregnant partner/friend?
Maybe not. After all, at such a young age, babies simply follow their parents, interact little, and their needs are mostly limited to eating, sleeping, and diaper changes.
So, perhaps parents are not searching for the features we think make us a comfortable choice.
Or maybe we are missing something. Silence is great, but perhaps the rooms should be more spacious. The garden is nice, but there is no dedicated heated pool.
We are still convinced that Riva is a popular destination for families with children aged 0 to 2.
At least, as a family with four young children, we consider ourselves lucky to live in an area with quiet roads passing through fields and farmland. Flat pedestrian and cycling paths lead peacefully to the historic centers of Riva, Torbole, and Arco.
During the warmer months, it is extremely pleasant (and convenient for those with baby carriages) to stop for a drink at an outdoor café, perhaps with a lake view. And then, the light… The colors, their contrast with the mountains and the lake—they make us dream.
And who, especially in such a magical moment of life as welcoming a child, doesn’t love to dream?
