Ve contem quel che sem drio a far in sti giorni, dopo aver serà l’albergo.
On the morning of the 25th the last guests left and then in a couple of days we finished all the cleaning.
Between November 7th and 8th the company will assemble the crane and we will begin the renovation work on our oldest wing. The one above the garden facing the street.
First, we absolutely must empty the rooms of what we will save from demolition (televisions, telephones, safes, some mattresses…) and find a new home for as many bed bases, wardrobes, bedside tables and chairs as possible.
We are a green hotel and we have this very close to our hearts. Even though we have to get rid of the old to make room for the new, we like to try to throw as little stuff into the containers as possible.
After all, we are talking about dated furnishings, yes, but still in good condition.
Fortunately, there are now a lot of internet channels where you can offer used vehicles and most of these work very well.
There will be 23 rooms involved in the renovation. The three attic rooms on the top floor and the others on the first and second which occupy the entire building overlooking the dining room, the children’s room and the glass corridor that borders the garden where we have the bar.
We will get 19 rooms out of it. 13 completely new, another 6 where we will only work on the bathrooms and doors and windows.
And we’ll redo the whole roof.
But we were saying, at the beginning of the first full week of November the workers will be ready.
In recent days they have come to cast the concrete base where the crane will be placed, then as soon as it is assembled they will immediately start with the demolition.
We’ve been arguing as a family for months about these jobs, which have already been delayed by at least a couple of years between Covid and the subsequent surge in prices.
We absolutely need to do them because the standard of service we would like to offer cannot be that of rooms that are over 40 years old.
THE INIZIAL WORRY WAS WHETHER TO REVOLUTIONIZE OR “SIMPLY” FIX IT.
Whether to dare, make larger rooms, perhaps equip them with comforts such as a sauna or hydromassage tub, or whether to take a step as long as our leg and make what is now out of fashion new and functional.
We opted for the second choice. Certainly less “cool”, but hopefully more sensible.
In the first case we would have run the risk of having a part of the hotel that was too out of scale compared to the level of services at the Brione. And, perhaps, we would have tied our hands for many years when instead the rest of the hotel will also need touch-ups in the meantime.
There is also something else to say.
We perceive that many of our loyal guests, those who return year after year and occasionally do so during the same season, like us this way. Everyone likes renovations, “beautiful” is beautiful. But perhaps if they found a completely different Brione they would no longer feel at ease.
I don’t know.
Maybe we’re wrong, but only time will tell how it went…
