It often happens that we complete renovations leaving something unfinished. The classic light bulb hanging from the wire that keeps company for months with those who move into a new house.
The example of the Balance room fully furnished and equipped, but with a wall where “we’ll see what to do with it”. And then you forget to do it…
Or the bar.
Everything is new, but the terrace “in the meantime, let’s leave it like this and then we’ll see”.
The first season after the works (2019) on the veranda we left the tables, chairs and umbrellas that we used in the old bar.
The following year we bought new gray armchairs with white cushions and the following year we placed two with a table next to the entrance door. Where even there at first we hadn’t thought about the step that is there now (a sort of raised platform on the pavement).
We’re still in the process, as they say. The garden terrace needs more reliable coverage.
- It’s raining and guests can no longer sit outside. Especially if you smoke
- Arrange the cushions, collect the cushions, dry the chairs, collect the menus and tissues from the tables.
- And then, to close the umbrellas at the first breath of wind we are not as good as Ellen and Clara who have to save the ceramics of the Banks house, after the cannon shots from Admiral Boom.
Not to mention that even on rainy days our guests really enjoy sitting in the garden. As long as the umbrella holds.
In short, we need A ROOF.
Which? As?
We are a bit difficult, and we also struggle to get along.
I don’t like those fixed structures with the black beams and the “fixed” tent. We would agree with dad that a pergola would be perfect there.
A wooden contrast with all the concrete around the house and the large window.
However, the box with the open and close roof is the most durable solution, which requires less maintenance than the wood and is certainly reliable.
That’s what we’ll do, I think. Hoping it doesn’t make us lose that magical sense of “open air” that you have sitting out there.
