#5 DOUBLE-TONE HORNS

She came to the reception, all happy and with photographic documentation. What a surprise you gave us, Viviane!

At that time (she was running in 1963) she was 15, on vacation with friends of her parents, at Brione with the bus coming from Belgium, from Charleroi. To get to know Verona, Venice, the Dolomites and Lake Garda.

These were the "roaring" years of the Walloon Belgians, who were then the majority and spent more on travel. Many of them knew Italy because many Italians (about 50,000) worked in the coal mines.
They told a lot about their home …

One of our fellow citizens (from Riva) who had worked and made many sacrifices in Belgium, having "made a fortune", returned to build a hotel. His promotion, in the land of mines, was automatic and the rumble was enormous.
Since he was very well known there, he made our town (especially in July) one of the most popular destinations for Belgians.

Today again.

The Walloons speak French and for many of the bars, shops, hotels here, which were experiencing the boom in tourism largely self-taught, this was of great help, since thanks to the Trentino dialect we could understand each other. And attend nice incomprehensible talks.

The Lady returned a few days ago, accompanied by her husband, and she honestly found it a bit difficult to navigate between the memories of those times and what was built after her.

The way to get there has remained the same but that is not around us - unfortunately ? - in fact we used the old photos as a satellite guide.

It was an intense moment for all of us: international memories, anecdotes, stories in a blender of fantastic emotions.

  • Those were the years of the Dutch who mounted double-tone horns on cars
  • The evenings where you went up to the Bastion by chairlift and subsequent descents into the woods …
  • The Rosengarten dance club and many handsome young soldiers …
  • Cappuccini in rivers …
